An extruder is a well-known conversion machine in the field of plastics, and is also widely used in the PVC sector. The machine is equipped with several types of die design to make different profiles patterns in both rigid and plasticized profiles. Many types of extruders, such as single screw, parallel twin screws, conical twin screws, segmented co-rotating twin screws, planetary screws and others are currently available on the market. They are available in several designs to better meet the various market needs.

PVC pipe is one pattern of rigid profile that is a major application of PVC in every country in the world. Moreover, decorative and construction profiles - with and without a wood flour composite - are set to become the product of the future, and place in the market for substitution of real wood products. High output is the main concern for a pipe maker, which Siamvic 266RC is designed for this requirement thanks to its high bulk density. Moreover, it has good flow-ability, enabling higher production output than those usual general-purpose resins at the same level of polymerization degree.

However, for complicated die shapes of a rigid profile, as a window profile, Siamvic 266PS is recommended.  For light profiles with high glossiness, a lower K-value resin, such as Siamvic 258RB and Siamvic 261RZ would be better. In addition, Siamvic 167GZ has a predetermined particle size, making it suit for blending with dry-blend mixtures. This has the result of enhancing the mechanical properties and even the appearance of the product.

To modify the characteristics of PVC, the additive called “plasticizer” will modify rigid PVC to be soft. Plasticized profiles with various softness levels can be achieved depending on the amount of plasticizer used. Examples of plasticized PVC profile applications are PVC hoses, refrigerator gaskets, soft construction profiles and PVC cables. To suit plasticized profiles, PVC should have a high porosity and be able to absorb plasticizers that allow easily the good process-ability during extrusion. However, to be compatible with large doses of plasticizers, the PVC should have a long molecular chain or higher K-value resin.

Siamvic 266PS and Siamvic 271GC are recommended for plasticized extrusion.
