Rigid or semi-rigid PVC, based on the use of homopolymers or a mixture of homo and copolymers, is used in the manufacture of thermoformed film. PVC is valued for its good mechanical properties, high clarity without defects, good hot-melt fluidity, and for presenting no danger to human health.

Thermoformed film is manufactured by the calendering of thin sheets followed by embossing (with or without vacuum).
