Plasticized PVC with medium or high-molecular weight is frequently used to ensure that the metallic lids of glass bottles and containers stay watertight. Containers for treated foodstuffs can be pasteurized or sterilized, given the excellent thermal properties of PVC closures. PVC is also valued for its organoleptic properties, which are indispensable for this type of product, and its chemical resistance.
Caps and closures are manufactured by calendering (cut joints from calendered sheets), extrusion (embossing of extruded granules), or specific injection and embossing of emulsion-type resins inside the closure.
