Blister packs for different types of medicines are often made from PVC due to the high rigidity and transparency of this plastic. PVC with a low molecular weight is particularly appropriate, allowing for easy gelling without the need for excessive temperatures. It is also appreciated for its low tendency to form fish eyes. PVC coated with polyvinylidene chloride (PVDC) can also be used when excellent barrier qualities are required to prevent gas, odour, and water vapor from reaching the product inside the packs.
Blister packs are manufactured by a process known as calendering.
